What size should I order?

Our ring sling sizes are based purely on the length it takes to wrap one around you and your baby, so they depend on your shoulder-to-waist size, your height, and to some degree, your baby’s size!

Maya Wrap ring slings are all the same width - 30 inches / 76 cm wide. The only difference between sizes is in the length of the tail! Ring sling sizes do not correlate to clothing sizes, so choose your size according to your desired tail length. Please see the sizing chart for images that can help you decide. The model shown is 5'6", 170 lbs., and she wears a size 14. You may want to have a slightly longer tail to cover your chest during nursing. If you are using it as a nursing cover, the tail should reach to mid-thigh.

You can also take a measuring tape or a piece of string and measure where the ring sling would fall on you to get an idea of how each size would fit!

Small - 67 inches (170 cm)
Medium - 73 inches (185 cm)
Large - 79 inches (201 cm)
X-Large - 85 inches (216 cm)

Ring Slings

What shoulder style should I choose?

That’s a good question! It really is a personal choice. The beauty of the Lightly Padded shoulder is its simplicity, and the beauty of the ComfortFit shoulder is its versatile shoulder.

The Lightly Padded Ring Sling shoulder has a light cushion for comfort and ease, while the rest of the sling is unpadded for total adjustability. Lightly Padded shoulders have a fixed width and are easy to adjust; pull it on until it cups your shoulder and forget about it! The padding keeps your shoulder comfy even when your preschooler wants some snuggles!

The ComfortFit Ring Sling is our newest design, a soft gathered shoulder with a small spandex panel insert. This gives your arm a greater range of motion, since the shoulder stretches with you! You can also adjust the width of the shoulder by sliding the removable fabric band up or down—giving you the exact shoulder width that works for your body! If you love the standard Maya Wrap Lightly Padded shoulder feeling, with its narrow width and cushy feel, you slide the loop up! If you prefer a gathered shoulder to spread out with its sturdy support, slide it down.

Which baby sling works best when taking baby in and out frequently?

We know that between frequent diaper changes for newborns and “Mama, my walk now!” for toddlers, you need something that’s fast and simple! Any of our ring slings are wonderful for fast in-and-outs and up-and-downs! All you do is lift the rings to loosen, and pull baby out.

Can I share my baby sling with my caregiver or my spouse?

Yes, you can! Many people can use several sizes of ring slings comfortably, and they’re very simple to adjust for size!

What carrier would you recommend if I am breastfeeding?

Some moms like to have a slightly longer tail to cover their chests during nursing. If you are using it as a nursing cover, the tail should reach to mid-thigh. We recommend using the tail to cover the exposed chest, never the face, nose or mouth of the baby. That way, you can observe your baby’s healthy breathing and eating while still covering as much as you’d like to.

What is the weight limit for Maya Wraps?

Our ring slings are tested for use between 8-35 pounds. Babies weighing less than 8 pounds, or who are premature or low tone, have health or developmental challenges should not be worn in a baby carrier without consulting with your health-care provider and a trained babywearing educator.

What are Gently Used Products?

Gently Used Maya Wrap Baby Slings are made up of returned items. They are in like-new condition but may be wrinkled, and they have the same guarantee as new Maya Wrap Baby Slings. The DVD and instructions are included. When you buy a gently used item, you can choose between a solid color or a striped/patterned one, but they are not listed by specific color or pattern.

Safety and Compliance

Are your baby slings compliant?

Yes. Maya Wrap Ring Slings and accessories are compliant with the Consumer Product Safety Information Act.

Babywearing FAQ

How soon can I start wearing my baby?

You can start wearing your baby from birth if you’d like! It can be a wonderful way to bond in those early days while still caring for yourself or your partner during recovery from childbirth. For babies or mothers with special medical needs, please talk to your pediatrician before babywearing.

Will I spoil my baby if I wear him/her too much?

Not at all! Babies who are worn settle down easily in their carriers, and let their parents go about the work that they need to get done! They associate loving comfort with the carrier and easily settle down with grandparents and babysitters too! In fact, research has shown that babies are quickly able to develop a sense of security and trust when they are carried. They are more likely to be securely attached to their caregivers and often become independent at an earlier age.

What if my baby is fussy in the carrier?

There are lots of things you can try! Is your baby fed, changed, and comfy? Try walking around the house or taking a little walk outside! Sing and talk to your baby! If your baby is in footie pajamas, check to make sure that their feet aren’t constricted.

Can I breastfeed my baby in a ring sling?

Yes! One of the best parts of using a ring sling is the ease of breastfeeding. The most important thing to keep in mind is monitoring your baby’s breathing (this means not covering their face!) and returning your baby back upright after nursing is done.

Are your products machine washable?

Our cotton ring slings are very easy to care for! Machine wash in cold water; line dry to avoid shrinking. Do not use fabric softener (which can cause the fabric to slip) or bleach. Iron as needed or wanted!
